Preparing ahead of the storm

Its been a while since I sat down and visited with myself. As hectic as last week was,it was so worth it. I am trying my hardest to get the powers that be in my small community to realize that a CERT team is needed for this area,as well as being beneficial to the surrounding areas. Its not a matter of IF but WHEN mother nature is going to decide to throw a temper tantrum with us. I'm sure that the city manager in Greensburg Kansas never thought they would be hit before May 4,2007,afterwards it was too late to come up with a plan.

I would like our entire town to know what to do ahead of time, instead of sitting back later saying "we should of done this differently". For those who say that it can't happen here....think of Greensburg,Parkersburg Iowa and the Super Tuesday outbreak in Febuary 08, 86 torndoes in 10 states. Damaging thousands of homes and businesses, killing 57 people. In the devastation that day, were a hospital and a college. During a time like that a community needs trained citizens who know how to give immediate first aid,as well as aide in search and rescue.

If something should happen here,we need to be prepared to take care of our own. I may not be able to change things this week, this month,or even this year but I will keep trying. I owe it to my neighbors,my friends and my community to make sure that when the worst happens, there are those here who can and will help.
Weather has always been my passion. I have a healthy respect for what mother nature is capable of and while i'm fascinated and snapping pictures,i'm always watching for the signs that danger may be just around the corner.
I would also like to see weather radios be just as common in homes in North Texas as smoke detectors. Early warnings save lives.

Quiet Sunday ?

Sundays are supposed to be a day of rest,a chance to unwind from the rush of the week and reflect.
Sometimes that works well and sometimes it doesn't. First there is the alarm, jarring me out of what had been a deep sleep and an incredible dream. Then the lazy stretching that never seems to last long enough to do any good. Jump out of bed, into the shower, make up,hair, clothes and then the rush to church. I absolutely LOVE our church and have such a sense of coming home every time I walk through those doors. No matter what has happened during the course of the week,or how bad i'm feeling,3 seconds after I get there, none of that matters,i'm with family. The hugs, the smiles, the honest caring can't compare to anything else. It doesn't hurt that jeans are the normal attire. Either that or leather chaps and Harley jackets...you see,its a Cowboy Church, where come as you are means exactly what it sounds like. Its not about us,its about HIM.
Maybe that day of rest is more a resting of your soul and spirit. Resting for your mind and focusing more on whats really important in our lives.

The start of something new...

While i'm not new to blogging, having done it on a news website and various other places over the years, this is the first time that its been a place I could call my own.

First of all,I have to thank Tracey for showing me that there are more options in the world of cyberspace.

Secondly, I have to learn to start writing more often and hoping that I don't bore anyone to tears.

Now,a little about me...i'm a 40 something sahm (for the most part) and a massage therapist. Due to health problems,i've had to learn that I can't do a lot of the things that I had planned to do and learn to relax a little more. I'm also one of those weather crazed lunatics that run outside when the weather turns severe and snap as many pictures as is humanly possible.
When the weather isn't catching my attention,I like shooting pics of anything else mother nature may have to offer.

While i'm learning how this whole blog things works,I hope to make new friends and share ideas.
